This project involved the milling and paving of a main runway. To minimize the impact on airline schedules, all construction work was done at night. Work could not begin until 11:00 PM and the runway had to be open for full service by 6:15 AM each morning. This stringent schedule required an on-site asphalt plant as well as local asphalt plants for backup. Major work items consisted of 167,500 sy of cold milling, 60,000 tons of bituminous asphalt, 20,000 cy of excavation for utilities and a new airfield lighting system.
