The replacement of Route 28 bridge over the Erie Canal and Mohawk River included a new 600-foot composite girder bridge and the construction of three 50- foot long, hydraulic controlled crest dams. The removal and reinstallation of a 130-foot long truss supported movable dam and the associated approach roadwork were also included in the scope of work. The project was divided into numerous phases to maintain canal water levels and flood control capabilities. New flood control structures and rehabilitation of existing movable dams required multiple cofferdams.
